Global Studies fosters the analytical skills students need to participate as responsible global citizens and to operate effectively in a globalized business environment. Embracing a variety of disciplinary perspectives, this concentration is rooted in an understanding of global political and economic processes.
Students are welcome to create their own focus for a deeper understanding of specific topics or regions. For example, students could have a regional focus on Asia with such courses as HSS2033 Comparative Politics, HIS4682 Women in China, CHN 2200 Chinese I, and CSP2009 East Asian Culture or on the Middle East with ECN3645 Business and Economic Policy in Developing Countries, HSS2038 History of the Middle East, ARB4650 Arab Culture for Business, and ARB2200 Introduction to Arabic. Students could dive deeply to the global economy with such courses as ECN3665 International Finance, FIN3504 Global Context of Business: South Africa, ECN3601Political Econ of Sustainable Development: Germany, and ECN3660 International Trade Theory and Policy.
This concentration is particularly useful for students interested in international consulting, international business, and global entrepreneurship. Students interested in such global careers can usefully pair this concentration with Strategy and Consulting, Entrepreneurship, Environmental Sustainability, and Operations Management.
